# Features and limitations Last updated: 2026-10-14. ## Free web editor - Film looks, tone, color and grain - JPEG and PNG export · up to 2048 px long edge - No platform watermark - Up to 5 synced presets - Transparent overlay PNG · up to 4096 px ## Import - JPEG, PNG and WebP photos, plus supported RAW files. - RAW extensions recognized by the editor: .arw, .cr2, .cr3, .nef, .nrw, .dng, .orf, .rw2, .raf, .pef, .srw, .raw, .rwl, .iiq, .3fr. A recognized extension does not guarantee every camera's file can be decoded. - Maximum file size: 40 MiB (41,943,040 bytes). - RAW decoding and original-size export support up to 32,000,000 pixels. - HEIC and HEIF must be converted to JPEG or PNG before import. - Color.io project files and grading sessions cannot be imported. The web editor does not provide 3D LUT file export. ## Editing and output Film looks, tone and color adjustment, grain, frames and EXIF layouts are available in the browser. Transparent overlays can be created without a photo. Free photo export has a maximum long edge of 2048 pixels. Free transparent overlay export supports up to 4096 pixels; valid dimensions start at 240 pixels. Pro supports original-size JPEG and PNG export up to 32 megapixels and output quality controls. ## AI Color Match Requires an account and credits. Only reduced input and reference copies with a maximum long edge of 640 pixels are uploaded for color analysis. The returned LUT is applied to the larger image locally. Delivered AI results support original-size JPEG and PNG export up to 32 megapixels; Pro materials and advanced parameters still require Pro. Technical failures do not consume a credit. Reusing a delivered result does not consume another credit. Film emulation and matching are creative approximations, so exact matches are not guaranteed. ## Data handling Photos you select are used only to provide editing, preview, export, and related features you request. Standard film simulation and export are designed to run on your device. In the iOS app, color matching runs on your device by default. When you use the on-device match, your selected photo and reference photo are processed on your iPhone and are not uploaded for that match. A failed on-device match does not automatically switch to online processing. Online AI Color Match is also available when an edit contains a cloud result, including the bundled example shown during first-run setup. Before you first select a reference photo for an online match, the app shows an upload notice naming Colorby and asks for your agreement. If you decline, that online task does not begin; local editing and on-device color matching remain available. Your agreement is saved, so the notice is not shown for every task. After you agree and select a reference photo, the app sends compressed JPEG copies of your selected photo and reference photo, each with a maximum long edge of 640 pixels, to our Google Firebase function. That function sends both copies to Colorby for color analysis and returns the generated LUT for use on your device. Our Firebase function also receives your anonymous app identifier and information about the request. The request our function sends to Colorby does not include that identifier. Online matching requires an internet connection and is subject to daily service limits. On the website, AI Color Match uploads working copies of the input and reference images with a maximum long edge of 640 pixels to our color-processing provider to analyze their color relationship and generate a LUT. The returned LUT is applied to the larger input image locally in your browser. On the website, saved custom presets, their small previews, delivered AI LUT results, credit history, and purchase records are stored privately with your account to support synchronization and recovery. Your original photos and editing drafts stay on your device. We do not upload your photo library as a whole. Do not submit an image to AI Color Match unless you have the right to use it. The app requests Photos access only when you choose to open or save a photo, and you can change access at any time in iOS Settings. When an imported photo contains location coordinates, the app may send those coordinates to Apple to look up a city or place name for a frame caption. The app stores the coordinates and the returned place name with the local library on your device. This uses location information already attached to the photo; it is separate from requesting your device's current location. On-device color matching does not mean that photo location information is never sent to a service provider.
