Privacy Policy
PresetCan is a product of KYNICA, LLC and is built as a private digital darkroom. This policy explains what information the iOS app and PresetCan website process, why it is needed, and the choices available to you.
v1.5 · October 8, 2026 · Updated October 14, 2026
1. Scope and responsible company
This policy applies to the PresetCan iOS application, the PresetCan website, and related support services. KYNICA, LLC is the company responsible for PresetCan and the data controller for information processed under this policy. This policy does not cover third-party websites or services that have their own privacy policies.
2. Photos, local editing, and AI Color Match
Photos you select are used only to provide editing, preview, export, and related features you request. Standard film simulation and export are designed to run on your device.
In the iOS app, color matching runs on your device by default. When you use the on-device match, your selected photo and reference photo are processed on your iPhone and are not uploaded for that match. A failed on-device match does not automatically switch to online processing.
Online AI Color Match is also available when an edit contains a cloud result, including the bundled example shown during first-run setup. Before you first select a reference photo for an online match, the app shows an upload notice naming Colorby and asks for your agreement. If you decline, that online task does not begin; local editing and on-device color matching remain available. Your agreement is saved, so the notice is not shown for every task. After you agree and select a reference photo, the app sends compressed JPEG copies of your selected photo and reference photo, each with a maximum long edge of 640 pixels, to our Google Firebase function. That function sends both copies to Colorby for color analysis and returns the generated LUT for use on your device. Our Firebase function also receives your anonymous app identifier and information about the request. The request our function sends to Colorby does not include that identifier. Online matching requires an internet connection and is subject to daily service limits.
On the website, AI Color Match uploads working copies of the input and reference images with a maximum long edge of 640 pixels to our color-processing provider to analyze their color relationship and generate a LUT. The returned LUT is applied to the larger input image locally in your browser.
On the website, saved custom presets, their small previews, delivered AI LUT results, credit history, and purchase records are stored privately with your account to support synchronization and recovery. Your original photos and editing drafts stay on your device.
We do not upload your photo library as a whole. Do not submit an image to AI Color Match unless you have the right to use it. The app requests Photos access only when you choose to open or save a photo, and you can change access at any time in iOS Settings.
When an imported photo contains location coordinates, the app may send those coordinates to Apple to look up a city or place name for a frame caption. The app stores the coordinates and the returned place name with the local library on your device. This uses location information already attached to the photo; it is separate from requesting your device's current location. On-device color matching does not mean that photo location information is never sent to a service provider.
3. Information we may collect
Website account information: if you create or use a website account, our authentication provider may process identifiers such as your name, email address, sign-in method, and account ID. The iOS app does not require you to register or sign in manually, but it uses the anonymous app identifier described above.
App identifier: the iOS app uses Google Firebase anonymous sign-in to obtain an app identifier, or reuses an existing Firebase session. You do not need to register or enter a name or email address to use the app. We use the identifier to authenticate service requests and associate service usage records and product analytics with that identifier. PostHog initially uses its own analytics identifier, which the app later associates with the Firebase identifier. Deleting and reinstalling the app does not necessarily create a new identifier, because an existing sign-in session may be restored.
Product usage: the app sends usage events to PostHog, including opening photos, using, importing, sharing or favoriting presets, starting or completing local and online matches, failures, exports, onboarding, preferences, permission choices and app lifecycle events. The information can include app version, build and installation details, session, request and preset identifiers, duration, export size and format, feature choices, cached service balance, tracking permission status and error categories. Our server also sends online-match completion and failure events, including request and service status information, under the same Firebase identifier. These records can be associated with the anonymous app identifier; anonymous sign-in does not make usage records unlinked. Analytics services may also process technical information through their SDKs, and the application's defined event fields are not a complete description of all such processing. Turning off advertising tracking does not turn off product analytics. The current iOS version has no product analytics opt-out setting.
Advertising measurement: when you allow tracking in iOS, the app can request Apple Search Ads attribution from Apple and send it through Firebase to PostHog. This can include campaign, ad group, keyword and ad identifiers, country or region, conversion type, and click or impression dates. Attribution is associated with the same anonymous app identifier used for product analytics. If tracking is not allowed, the app does not obtain new attribution through this path. Turning tracking off does not automatically delete attribution already received or remove its existing association with usage records.
Service records: our functions maintain online AI Color Match usage and balance records, as well as daily usage counts, against the anonymous app identifier. These records support service limits and abuse prevention. They may be created when the app first contacts the service, even though this iOS version offers no in-app purchases or subscriptions. The absence of a purchase offer does not mean online processing is unlimited.
Website diagnostics and usage: the website may collect device, browser, approximate location, interaction, crash, and performance information through Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. We also keep website color-match event records in Firebase, associated with a hashed website account identifier. These can include task and request identifiers, timestamps, service status, duration, feature choices and credit changes.
Optional Apple diagnostics: the iOS app may receive diagnostics provided by Apple if you choose to share them.
Support information: we process the messages and files you choose to send when requesting help.
iOS beta applications: if you apply on our website, we store your email address, chosen language, application time and notice version in private Vercel storage. We use these records only for TestFlight invitations and testing updates. You can request removal by emailing legal@kynica.com; an account is not required.
4. How we use information
We use information to provide and secure the service, authenticate users, maintain settings, diagnose failures, respond to support requests, understand product performance, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information.
5. Service providers
For the website, we use Clerk for authentication, Stripe for checkout and billing when purchasing is enabled, Colorby for AI color analysis and LUT generation, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity for analytics, and Firebase cloud functions for online color matching and service event records, and Vercel or other infrastructure providers needed to operate the website. We also use Apple for app distribution and optional diagnostics.
In the iOS app, we use Google Firebase for anonymous sign-in and cloud functions that handle online color matching and maintain service usage and balance records. We use PostHog for product analytics, including app and server usage events associated with the anonymous app identifier and advertising attribution obtained through the app's tracking-controlled path. For online color matching, our Firebase function sends compressed copies of your selected photo and reference photo to Colorby for color analysis and LUT generation. Apple may receive location coordinates already attached to an imported photo to look up a city or place name for a frame caption.
6. Retention and deletion
Edits, drafts, presets and the library diagnostics log are stored locally on your device. Data stored only within the app is removed when the app is deleted; this does not remove copies you have saved or shared elsewhere. Some local library data may also be included in device backups. The app's local library diagnostics directory is excluded from those backups. Deleting the app does not by itself delete remote service or analytics records, and an existing anonymous sign-in session may be restored after reinstallation.
Service usage records, product analytics and advertising attribution are associated with the anonymous app identifier. Deleting the app does not by itself delete these remote records. The app lets you copy the identifier by opening Profile, then Support and About, and tapping the version row, so you can include it when contacting us about those records.
Online AI processing involves photo copies, generated LUTs and request logs handled by our cloud services and Colorby. Deleting the app does not request deletion of those data. This policy does not promise immediate deletion of uploaded photos or generated results by a service provider. You can contact legal@kynica.com about retention or a deletion request; copying an identifier or contacting us does not itself delete records.
Website account, support, analytics, and transaction records are retained for service operation, security, dispute resolution, and legal obligations. You may contact us to request access to or deletion of information associated with your website account. Deleting the iOS app does not delete your website account or its records.
7. Your choices
You can change Photos and camera permissions in iOS Settings. You can also change PresetCan's tracking permission under Privacy and Security. Turning tracking off stops new advertising attribution through the app's tracking-controlled path; it does not delete earlier attribution, remove earlier associations, or turn off product analytics. You can decline the online AI Color Match upload notice and continue with local editing and on-device matching. Declining prevents that online task from starting; it does not turn off all analytics or network requests.
On the website, you can sign out and contact legal@kynica.com about account or data requests. Browser settings can control site permissions and cookies. Such controls do not themselves delete server records. Some records may need to be retained for legal obligations or security.
8. Children
PresetCan is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum age required in their region. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate authorization.
9. International processing
Service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
10. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the product changes. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date and, where appropriate, an in-app notice.
For privacy questions or requests to access, correct, or delete personal information, email KYNICA, LLC at legal@kynica.com. For product support, email support@kynica.com. We will respond within a reasonable period and within any period required by applicable law.
